What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #171
There is more and more nonsense going online these days when it comes to dog training. Lots of passionate folks pushing an agenda that unfortunately is hurting lots of dogs and dog owners in the short end and the long end. Folks pushing an agenda for all reward and no corrections and as far as even going as far as trying to pass laws that you cannot even say NO to your dog.
Lets make it perfectly clear, if you want to train a dog a new behavior, if you want to reinforce a behavior that you want more of you use a reward (and most of our training daily is with a reward approach).
If you want to eliminate, supress or lessen a dog from doing something you need to apply punishment (you need to actually learn how to properly apply punishment in order to stop a behavior and stop it NOW) that is the secret to behavior modification. Once you learn this you can take your dog farther than you have before.
I lot of people are passionate about living in a world with no punishment for dogs, they are using lots of emotions though instead of the reality and frankly, facts don't care about your feelings.
